Buffalo NAS LS-WVL Emergency Mode Recovery

I was so upset at first.  Our housekeeper had enthusiastically mopped the floor in May and knocked over one of my hard drives that I’d kept in “safe” location thinking the worst wouldn’t happen.

So I had a dead Network Storage device stuck in Emergency mode refusing to work.

I tried using my MacBookPro to recover but failed.  I used Windows in emulation but failed.

On Friday, I tried again on a PC and lo, and behold, there were signs of life.  By the end of the day, I was able to access the Hard Drive though everything had defaulted to Japanese.  Wow.  Thank God.

I had almost dumped the Drive.  I was able to use the information from these helps below that allowed me to recover my Buffalo Network Storage Device.

Rapportive – Gmail Extension that really helps you know your contacts

Rapportive allows you to find out if the person emailing has a digital history in other social networks.  For example, Linkedin and Facebook.  Rapportive replaces the column ads on the right sidebar.

The caveat is you can only use this in Gmail.

Vibeapp may be a better alternative if you use a mac and don’t use Gmail as your default email.  Check it out here.
